OUR JULY 12th MEETING Today we welcomed three new members into our PROBUS club. Alan and Anita Doherty and Carol Williams |
Alan, Anita and Carol |
we hope you spend many happy years with us....
WELCOME CAROL |
Our Guest Speaker today Ron Arnott, was unable to be with us due to having to attend a funeral .
So today at very short notice we had a little guest speaker spot from President Don, who told us about his National Service experience as well as some show and tell items to look at , also a poem from Vice President Carolin and a little talk about Operation Christmas Child from Judi.
Our August 9th meeting is our birthday meeting.
September 13th : meeting we are hoping to hear from our member , retired fireman Mick Ryan , who will give us a talk on fire safety in the home.
Mick was due to give us this talk at our June Meeting but had to cancel that talk because of an important meeting he had to attend . so hopefully his talk will take place in September...
OCTOBER 11th we will finally have our RIDGY DIDGE TALK.
Ron has been booked again to give us a talk about the didgeridoo and hopefully even play one for us .
Yeah.... at long last we get to hear the RIDGY DIDGE talk !!!.......
NOVEMBER 8th :
We have our Good citizenship awards , please let John know if you are interested in being a presenter of one of the 6 students at Our GOOD CITIZEN AWARDS, who will have been chosen by the teachers etc at their school.
Glenvale Special School
Point Clare Primary
Henry Kendall High
This is a very uplifting experience where we meet at a time to suit with the student (and hopefully their parents) who has been chosen by their school to recieve our award , write up a little presentation speech about them to let everyone know why they were chosen by their school for this special award and then present them to our President , who gives them their award.
This is always a very special day with Pricipal's or Deputy's from the three schools in attendance as well as the usually very proud family and friends of the chosen students.
It is probably the highlight meeting of our year so please try to be there.
NOV 8TH, 10am please put the date in your diary now as a morning not to be missed....
I must remind you that our PROBUS club is the only club in Australia (maybe the world) who gives out a "GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARD " to students of local schools.... So we are rightfully very proud of our efforts and the students have reported that they were highly valued by prospective employers at interviews when they saw a copy of
this award in the students CV....
Our awards are not given for academic ability but for diligence in performing allocated tasks , meritorious conduct both in and out of the classroom, for a positive caring, helpful attitude to fellow students and the community.
SO THEY SHOULD BE VALUED by prospective employers....
PLEASE NOTE
Our August meeting will be our 39th Birthday so we will have an extended morning tea / light lunch (for just your normal $4.00) and longer than usual time to catch up and chat with each other, in place of a guest speaker.
We are also asking members to give us some ideas as to how we might celebrate our milestone 40th birthday NEXT YEAR.
ANY Suggestions in the Suggestion Box please....
