Thursday 11th OCTOBER monthly meeting

Today we had our long  awaited Didgeridoo talk and demo from our member Ron Arnott. It was worth the wait, Ron bought along a selection of his didgeridoos and told us all about them.  (His shirt was indigenous too). Some of his didgeredoos  were made from TREES one was even a piece of PVC pipe , one was a plastic pipe inside a wooden Didge (pictured) which he then played like a saxophone.
Not just a pretty face this bloke, he knows his music....
Our President Don bought along his aboriginal rhythm sticks to add to the  theme and all in all we had an indigenous morning .

                   Well done everyone, very enjoyable.......

Ron  proceeded to show us his selection of Didgeridoos, some made by himself and hand painted by himself,   (Clever Ron).

Ron then got right down to business and actually played several of his DIDGERIDOOS....
It is a real art and one has to be able to circular breathe to play one it seems,
That rules out most of us I think,
I don't think he will get much competition
from any of us to be honest....

Ron then got down   (and  technical) .
                       AND Indigenous met Technology...........

Thanks Ron, for bringing all those Didges and for playing them for us ,  it was great and we really appreciate your telling us all about this very special instrument ...

Not to be outdone Ron's wife Judy was inducted into our club as a member and later  Pres. Don presented her with his rhythm sticks, he said he thought they would be better suited in their home....
(See photo's below)
We then had our beautiful morning tea Thanks Ros and the crew, we are all missing  Kevin  Mace who hasn't been very  well and hope to see him back ASAP.

Judy Arnott NEW MEMBER

Judy gets the Rhythm sticks....

Our Gazette editor  LIONAL told us a few jokes that were very funny. Thanks Lional .... ( loved the Blonde bloke Joke)

And John Starr ended the meeting with his TRIVIA questions.
John also told us he didn't think we should be able to buy grated cheese in the shops anymore.
HE THOUGHT "We should be  making  Australia GRATE again.     Think about it !!

It was good to see Bill Bowhay back with us after a few months away with a nasty  health issue .

Hope your healing well Pat and Jerry is being  a good nurse....

We are still missing  Derek and Joyce Crawford and wish them well.
It will soon be their 61st Wedding Anniversary,

September 13th meeting

Today we had a good roll up of members and our guest speaker was  our own member MICK RYAN (retired Fireman) .
Mick came dressed in his old uniform and bought along a lot of show and tell goodies to show and tell us about.
WELL DONE MICK, and the uniform  still fitted you,
                             very impressive !!!!
Mick  gave a smoke alarm away to a lucky member whose name was drawn during the lucky door prize drawing..
Mick told us a lot of tips and gave a lot of good advise, hopefully, we will all be safer in and around our homes now,
                                     Thanks Mick..
Vice president Carolin bought along her dad's old fire helmet to add to the talk Mick gave (see pics below)  ....
Please don't forget to change your batteries in your smoke alarms every year (YES, even the hard-wired ones have a backup battery). If you can't do it yourself (AND SENIORS ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE CLIMBING LADDERS) ,  please contact your local fire station and they will send a couple of young and handsome men to do that for you.
You will then go on their list to have regular battery checks.

Mareea HOOK   received her O.B.E. today, presented to her by Pres DON, Wow these O.B.E. recipients are looking younger all the time .
Well done Mareea, you don't look like you should have this O.B.E.
